Erebus Academy driver Adam Marjoram is eager to return to Townsville this weekend after the street circuit provided the catalyst to turn around his season last year.
Currently in third place in the V8 Ute Racing Series points standings, the #5 Auto One Ute driver has a preference for racing on street circuits and is confident of a good weekend.
“I always seem to do fairly well racing on street circuits, so I prefer them over permanent race tracks,” said Marjoram.
“Last year the Townsville round marked a turn-around in our season.
“We had really good pace in the car and we were matching the front runners but we weren’t lucky in the pill draw for the reverse grid race.
“But I learnt a lot last year and we know we have a really quick car at the moment.
“I love the track and Townsville itself and I cant wait to be back there.”
After a great start to the year, which has included several podium place race results, the 22-year-old has his sights firmly set on challenging the Series leaders.
“If you had asked me this time last year if I was happy with third place in the Series, I would have been over the moon,” he said.
“But this year, to be honest, I’m a bit disappointed because we’ve had such great results and I want to be at the front!
“But the leaders are in sight and we’ll continue to fight our way forward.”
Given his third place in the points standings, Marjoram will carry 20kg of success ballast throughout the Townsville weekend.
Heading into the previous round in Darwin, the youngster was in second place in the standings which resulted in 30kg of success ballast.
“At Darwin I really only noticed the extra weight in the corners and it didn’t effect me in the straights,” he explained.
“So with Townsville being a bit tighter and more twisty than Darwin, having 10kg less ballast this round will hopefully work in our favour.”
Round Four of the V8 Ute Racing Series begins with the first practice session at 11:25am (AEST) on Friday.
Adam enjoys the support of Auto One, Valvoline, SuperCharge Batteries, Nova 937, SP Tools, and Everblast.
